The Afshar are a Turkic tribe with groups in Turkey, Caucasus and Iran, of which the largest population is in south east Persia near Kerman. Apart from piled rugs the Afshars produce slitweave flatweaves and soumacs. Designs are rich in variety. Today the style is plainer in reds and blues and fewer motifs.
