Mahal is a label of fineness of weave rather than origin of design and relates to the coarser rugs and carpets from the Arak region of Persian. Although they are not the finest it is worth remembering that the price of a carpet is affected by its colour and design. Traditional designs are generally used such as the Herati and Gul Hennae. The resulting carpets mostly made for export are very appealing. The wool is soft and lustrous and therefore not so durable.
