Oriental carpets are generally named after the province, town or city where they are believed to have been made. For instance carpets woven in or near the capital of Kordestan, are called after that town, Senneh. For those weavings made by tribes who have no permanent homes the weavings are given the name of the tribe such as Baluch or Afshar. As the subject of Oriental carpets is not an exact science there are often differences of opinion as to where a carpet was made, particularly older carpets.
