This is a finely woven rug with natural dyes, done in the style of a Shirvan so a high knot count and closely clipped pile and finely drawn. The complexity of the detailed borders is beautifully balanced by the plainer field/centre. Note the double kufic border.

Shirvan is an area in the central eastern part of Caucasus and during the 19th and 20th centuries many rugs were made.
